How Dr. Barzani and I Entered the Novel
The novel I wanted to write belonged first to Nora, the Rose of Jericho. I wanted to follow the life that had shaped her and the strength that allowed her to endure. I did not want to determine her story in advance. It had to take shape as I wrote, and the other characters would come with it.
